Despite having this blog in some form for close to ten years, I've never enjoyed the mechanics of updating it. It was my own fault for using custom PHP code I'd written back in 2003. I thought of revamping it for years, but could never find any existing framework I liked, and of course rolling my own would have been silly.

The idea of sucking up PhpBB posts to form a blog predates this site; I have no good excuse for not going this route earlier except that I (wrongfully) didn't have enough respect for PhpBB and (rightfully) doubted my own ability to maintain it and its database. Recently however I spent a few days writing some scripts to install and run all of the Border Town stack in a local VM. Once I got comfortable with maintaining the PhpBB install and running my hands through its database, it only took two evenings to graft this blog-like front end on top of it.

Alas, all those wasted years. Oh well! From now on if you want to comment on a blog post just click on the talking head.
